Los Angeles Limousine Service Company (post by zasaxilmk)

It’s a perfect night, warm and fresh. All around you happy party goers are laughing and dancing with a new beat—your new beat. To top it all off, you are looking good because you rented a stretch limo in Los Angeles that gives you the image of a successful artist.

As connected as people are these days, you only have one chance to make an impression that will make people want to find out more about you John Stevens

says. “People are a lot less patient, a lot less willing to give you a second chance. Someone sees you at a party, and they go, ‘Wow—I need to know more about this act.’ They pull out their iPhone, look you up on MySpace, next thing you know, they’re downloading your latest track from iTunes. But it all starts with making them believe in you as a successful artist.”

Whether your gig is a park in Los Angeles or a birthday party for some wealthy family that lives outside the city, you know the importance of looking the part. Parties in Los Angeles demand the latest equipment, clothes, and a really powerful act. Successful artists know that the one final thing which separates the men from the boys is the ride they come in.

“If you hop a limo, it really says something powerful about you,” says John Stevens. A member of First LA Limo, he knows firsthand the power that comes with a limousine in Los Angeles. “As a musician, you can’t afford to come rolling up to that Los Angeles graduation party in your beater Scion XB.” He notes that real bands have stage hands, gaffers, and sound guys who do all the preliminary setup. “Could the musicians set up? Sure they could. They probably did anyway, back when they were the no-name guys opening for the big act. But even back then, they made the grand entrance. They never looked like the little guys, even when they were just opening. They knew then that the only way to make it big was to play big, to look big.” LA Limo offers luxury limos and stretch limos all over Los Angeles that an upcoming artist can incorporate into their public image. “Someday, you’ll have the money to buy a whole fleet of executive limos. But till then, you can rent one.”

For the artist new to the music scene, any help in getting attention is a big asset. Los Angeles is a competitive market, and someone who can make it big in the birthday party, graduation party, and wedding party scene in Los Angeles can make it anywhere. A luxury limo gives a newer musician or DJ that added edge to take them to the next level.

“With a luxury limo in Los Angeles, you are really saying your act commands respect,” says John Stevens. “And in the music industry, that’s cold, hard currency. Who knows who might see your next gig?”

That staff member deliberately told him colleague that the girl had stolen a pencil case deliberately. This was done to make your daughter feel bad. His reply as an afterthought in this forum displays his guilty behaviour. He is just trying to get close.

I did not think your conduct was proper as a father. You are too intent on pressing upon your kids that that guy "had a right to search the children's bags if he was suspicious" I don't agree. When the receipt is being shown even then the staff member is trying to browbeat the children into submission. I would have really told him off and asked him if he was f**king crazy to act like a jail warden just because he was suspicious. The law or common tenets of decency does not give rights to harass just because a man of limited intelligence is suspicious. Suspicious, my foot, that man was just jealous of a happy childhood. Your weak conduct made the kids cry at home. Please remember that. They looked up to you for support while you made a song and dance about the staff member's right to search their bags.

Should Hibberson St close? (post by mranderson)

good idea.

car drivers get frustrated because they have to wait for people to cross, and people crossing get frustrated because ive seen some cars not even bother to stop. seriously why bother taking this street, for the small chance of getting one of the parking spaces or as a would be short cut through to harrison/franklin.

How many accidents or even near accidents has there been at the the Hibberson/Hinder street interesection? ive seen two.

perhaps making it no right turn from certain directions...?

Should Hibberson St close? (post by Gungahlin)

Gungahlin’s town centre could be made pedestrian-only during the day under new planning rules discussed at the Gungahlin Community Council (GCC) meeting last week.

The ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) is currently developing detailed draft planning rules for the Gungahlin town centre. ACTPLA has been discussing the plans with interested parties and used last week’s community council meeting to discuss the ideas from community members regarding Hibberson Street and weather protection in the town centre.

Residents at the meeting expressed concerns that Hibberson Street, which runs between most of the major shops, was too busy and said changes needed to be made. The most significant issue was the provision of outdoor areas for cafes and restaurants, although there was also some concern about these taking up too much room on footpaths, resulting in difficulties for pedestrians. GCC president Alan Kerlin said there needed to be more control over the use of A-frame signs by cafes and restaurants.

Car traffic during the day raised the most concern for residents, with suggestions to either make Hibberson Street a pedestrian-only area or replace the current pedestrian crossings with traffic lights.

Providing shelter from the elements was also a major topic of discussion, however residents stipulated the need for any shelter to not block sunshine on warm days. Suggestions included building tunnels between shopping areas, putting sails partly across roads and providing covered walkways or adjustable awnings.

Representatives from ACTPLA noted these ideas and any opposition to them, such as the need for tunnels between shopping areas to be aesthetically pleasing. Residents were also asked to complete a survey in which they ranked the importance of facilities on Hibberson Street. These ranged from safe places for shoppers to cross, on-street parking and wide footpaths for shoppers to on-street goods loading zones, bus stops, taxi ranks and car traffic during the day and night.

A spokeswoman from ACTPLA said the Hibberson Street survey would be used in ACTPLA’s consultation with stakeholders to guide discussion on the future of Hibberson Street. “As well as Gungahlin Community Council, we have also used it with retail stakeholders and will continue to use it in ongoing consultation,” she said.

A planning study report and a draft Territory Plan variation will be given to the government late this year and then released to the public for consultation.

Let us know what you think?

This was posted by 'Gungahlin' on behalf of a (previously) very upset long-time local resident:

Hi Josh

Thanks for your post.

Thank you also for showing the courage and conviction to provide such a well considered response - you have shown a great deal of maturity and your apologising comments are appreciated. You're a good guy.

I would also like to apologise to you - I am also sorry if you got into any trouble over the 'incident' it certainly wasn't my intention. I was just so very upset and angry (as well as pretty embarrassed) at the time. I do appreciate that you were just doing your job and, as I said, I know you were not to know that my children don't steal as I know unfortunately some do.

The kids are fine now and I think everyone involved has learnt a valuable lesson (including me). I should have handled the situation a little better myself. Hey, I'll even visit the Centre News again.

I wish you all the very best in the future Josh and hope you're having fun up in Queensland. What are you doing with yourself?

Thanks again for your post.

I just read through this again.
When I was watching the kids.. they were looking through the pencil cases in the store... I first noticed them when I first saw the girl (sorry.. Don't know her name) putting a pencil case in the big W bag.
At that point I didn't say anything to them.. And the girl absolutely did not say anything to me about buying it from big W..
Also when I was showed the recipt, I immediately said sorry because I realised they did not steal the pencil case.

I realise I did the wrong thing but those details just bugged me a bit..

I just stumbled across this and made an account to post a reply

I'm the staff 'young male staff member' who you mentioned..
I no longer work there.. and I now live in Brisbane.. But I just want to mention that I am sorry for what happened.. I wasn't aware at the time of the proper procedures of searching customers bags.. I admit I went about it the wrong way.. and I did receive a very long talking to about it from my boss afterwards.. So it didn't go unnoticed by the store..

I respect the fact you will no longer shop there.. I don't have any affiliation with the store any more but I just don't want the fact that I messed up to cop the store a bad reputation.. the staff are usually extremely nice..

Hope this clears it up a little?

IMEX Motors (post by Gungahlin)

I just wanted to say to say a huge 'thank you' to Wali Nozhat, General Manager of IMEX Motors in Mitchell for his help on Friday, 9 January 2009.

My young son and I had visited the Mitchell Retail Centre. Upon returning to our car it wouldn't start. IMEX Motors are just across the road from the Mitchell Retail Centre so we walked over to see if we could borrow a set of jumper leads. Wali quickly and politely lent us a set of portable 'self starting' jumper leads and in no time at all we had the car started and were on our way home. Wali had got us out of a potentially difficult situation. It's nice to know there are still some very kind and helpful people out there.

If your looking for a quality used call why not call Wali at IMEX Motors. They are at 53 Brookes Street in Mitchell. Phone 6241 8792 or 0402 779 068.

Centre News (post by Gungahlin)

This was posted by 'Gungahlin' on behalf of a very upset long-time local resident:

I just wanted to share a traumatising experience my three children (aged 11, 9 and 6) had whilst browsing in the 'Gungahlin Centre News' (next to Woolworths) in the Gungahlin Marketplace on Friday, 9 January 2009.

I had raced into Woolworths to pick up some drinks for the kids and they asked if they could look in the 'Gungahlin Centre News' whilst they were waiting for me. I was gone 5 minutes and when I called them out of the shop the (young) male staff member stopped them. I heard him say "aren't you going to pay for that"? I looked on briefly as my kids politely explained to him that they had bought it from Big W and that they had the receipt. By now I was standing next to them and asked him "what was going on". Here are the facts:

We had bought a couple of things at Big W about 15 minutes before entering the 'Gungahlin Centre News' (some boys t-shirts and a girls pencil case). Whilst in 'Gungahlin Centre News' the pencil case had fallen out of the Big W bag and my daughter had picked it up and put it back in. At the time the male staff member was watching and my daughter had said to him - "it's my pencil case we just bought at Big W". My daughter then clearly heard him say to the female staff member (who turned out to be the manager of 'Gungahlin Centre News') "that girl has just stolen a pencil case". My kids continued to look around the shop for another minute while waiting for me. It was then that I returned and called them out of the 'Gungahlin Centre News' where they were 'accosted' by the male staff member. Even after seeing the receipt which clearly showed the pencil case had been bought at Big W 15 minutes earlier, he was very accusing of the children.

As this male pointed out to me "we have a right to search someone's bags if we are suspicious Sir" - Yes, I totally agree they do, but... they do not have the right to traumatise three innocent kids who were doing nothing more than looking in a shop. I know everyone says their kids are good and wouldn't do anything wrong but, trust me, stealing is something my kids have been brought up to not do!

This incident has really affected the kids and they came home and cried for 20 minutes because they were so upset. I tried to explain to them that the man was just checking as he has the right to do, but like my daughter said "dad I told him when I was putting it back in the bag that I had bought it from Big W and he didn't say anything until we were leaving".

Note to 'Gungahlin Centre News' - yes, you have the right to inspect anyone's bags as they leave your shop but please do it in a less confronting and accusing manner. It would interesting to see if you would have been as confronting and quick to accuse a middle aged man or woman in this situation.

As we left 'Gungahlin Centre News' the staff member did apologise "for offending me" - if only he knew how much he had!

Well for what it's worth, I'll never walk into 'Gungahlin Centre News' again. There is a very good newsagency opposite Coles Supermarket in The 'G' Gungahlin complex where the staff are friendly and welcoming and I'll be using this newsagency 100% of the time from now on!

Is graffiti art? (post by Gungahlin)

I just wanted to express my opinion on what I consider to be an anti-social problem that is spreading across the Gungahlin Region.

Don't get me wrong, I know this is not an issue unique to our region but it is really starting to get me down. I am talking about Graffiti.

I am so sick of seeing more and more of this around the place. Where do these people get off? Why do they think it is ok to go around in the dead of night (very brave aren't they?) and spray their crap all over peoples property. I'm sure they wouldn't like me to do it over their property. I think if they are caught they should cop more of a punishment and be made to clean up their mess. I am just sick of seeing it and I know even if they are caught (like this happens often!) they will get little more than a slap on the wrist (oh, I forgot, we can't do this anymore!) - give me a break!

What do others think?

Customer Service? (post by Gungahlin)

Having lived in Gungahlin since 1997 it's great to see the amount of local shopping opportunities increase over the years. I still remember when a caravan parked outside the (at the time yet to be completed) Palmerston shops, selling bread and milk to a small, but growing population.

Today, modern supermarkets, speciality shops and major retail chains abound across Gungahlin.

While the vast majority of stores offer great customer service, I'm amazed at some store workers who just don't 'get it'. My most recent brush with 'service' was just before Christmas (spending several hundred dollars by the way). I was in a well known local major - the (young) lady serving me spent the entire time talking to the next operator about what she was doing for new years eve, not once acknowledging me. Now I wasn't expecting her to give tell me her life story but come on, is this the way to treat customers?

Had any bad experiences whilst shopping in Gungahlin? Let us know by adding to this forum topic.

Illegal Dumping (post by Guest)

Ok, nobody likes paying tip fees, especially as they continue to go up and up and more and more items attract additional charges (like computer monitors, mattresses and tyres) but is it really fair to dump what can best be described as 'crap' near the charity bins around Gungahlin Town Centre?

This Christmas season has seen such an unsightly mess outside the bins in Hibberson Street, Gungahlin. I've heard that dirty nappies, smashed TV's and household waste are regularly dumped in the bins.

To the people who do this (you know who you are and must surely know what your doing is wrong (don't you?) - come on, lift your game. It costs the charities thousands of dollars a year to clean up and dispose of the rubbish, money that could go towards people who are (no doubt) more needy than the 'dumpers'.

NO PARKING! (post by Guest)

By The Gungahlin Grinch.

Arrraaahhhh!!

It may come as a huge shock to some people, but those no parking/no standing signs that dot the Gungahlin landscape DO serve a purpose. Now let the Grinch think... what could it be? Ah yes, perhaps they are put there as an artificial IQ test. Actually the Grinch hopes not, otherwise some Gungahlin residents would have a score more akin to a low scoring soccer (sorry football) game.

Here is a really radical Grinch thought (yes, he has them from time to time) - perhaps these signs are put up to:

1. improve public safety

2. improve traffic flow

Illegal parking around local shops

The local shop car parking scene really gets the Grinch's blood boiling every time. What is it with some people? "I'm only getting a few things" they will say if ever challenged for parking against red curbs, no parking signs etc. So the @*%@ is 99% of everyone else!

The Grinch is particularly fed up with the illegal parking in Gribble Street. The area between the video store and the pizza shops are especially galling to him. There is a NO PARKING sign on the video shop side of the road for a bloody good reason. With cars parked on both sides of the road an anorexic Paris Hilton would struggle to squeeze through. It's only a matter of time before someone is hurt because of this dangerous practice, and it better not be The Grinch!

For the slow witted amongst us - or those who think hiring/dropping off a video is as important as curing cancer - the side of the road that has the video store on it is NO PARKING!! Get it? The Grinch better not see any more cars parked here - he may just (finally) loose his temper!

Illegal parking around Schools

Ah school! A place of learning for the region's growing minds. A place of understanding, tolerance and peace - yeah right, not during the traditional kid drop off and pick up! - Just how arrogant are some parents?

Off they go, driving to school, obeying every rule in the book until they get within 300 metres of the school - then it is on for young and old!

They jostle for position in a display of driving our own Mark Webber would be proud of. Weaving in and out of traffic to be the first into the school car park. They have to be first as no other parent could possibly be as busy or as important as them. They drop the kids off with such speed even the Ferrari pit crew would be proud!

They park as close to the school as possible. The Grinch thinks it's a good job the schools have fences, as he is sure some of them would park next to the teachers desk if they could! They "don't see" the Set Down/Pick Up only, NO PARKING sign just three metres from them. Out of the car they get, into the school they dash, only to return a few minutes later for round two of the Gungahlin Grand Prix!

Seriously guys (sorry, in 80% of cases it's the gals) get a grip. Everyone is as important as everyone else. The world is not (trust the Grinch here) just yours, and if you are a few minutes late the Grinch doesn't think this will cause the world to implode.

The Grinch's Answer?

If we can't convince the pig headed amongst us to stick to the parking laws, perhaps the solution would be to issue them with a "special license". No the Grinch doesn't mean a special "you're a dick head" license (hey, now there's an idea!) but a license that raises them to the status they (think) they deserve. At least this way, we may not get as annoyed when we see them parking illegally. The "Special License" could read like this;

"This is special license. It allows the bearer to park wherever they want, whenever they want, regardless of the posted sign, or the absolute inconvenience caused to other road users having to negotiate around their vehicle".

"Furthermore, this license will alter the conscience of the bearer to such an extent that they will be totally oblivious to other road users stares, gestures or rude words whilst carrying this license".

The Grinch can see it now - He comes across a car parked illegally next to the video shop in Gribble Street. He gets out of his (legally) parked car, ready to slash the tyres of the (illegally parked) vehicle, when out comes the cars owner (a skinny, fit, blonde, about 25) waving the "special license". It will make the Grinch feel so much better. He will probably even offer to hold the videos and pizza while she fumbles for the keys.....

So what do you think? The Grinch isn't always right. There was this one time back in 1945.....
