Funding for 80th Canberra Show

The Tradies Club has been involved with the Canberra Show for more than a decade and to celebrate the show’s 80th outing, the club has given its biggest donation ever.

Royal National Capital Agricultural Society (RNCAS) CEO Geoff Cannock said the $18,000 would be used to help farmers bring sheep and cattle to this year’s show. “Those traditional animals need the housing, they need to be fed during the show so it’s expensive for their owners to bring animals here,” he said. Mr Cannock said the subsidy not only helped the show, but the competition also gave the farmers social and educational opportunities.

Tradies board chair Sarah Schoonwater said the club and parent body the CFMEU saw the show as important because it gave city people the chance to learn the importance of agriculture. “When the farmers do it tough, the whole country does it tough,” she said.

The Canberra Show runs from February 27 to March 1.
