Buyers chase Crace land

31 blocks sold at new Gungahlin suburb.
The race for Crace ended with some extremely happy people yesterday (4 April, 2009). Up to 100 people gave up work and creature comforts, camping out to guarantee themselves first choice of a home in the new Gungahlin suburb.
In a strong showing, 31 of the 43 blocks were sold yesterday in the first of several land releases over the next five years. Crace project director Ian Dawkins said a further 24 people were placed on a list to get first choice at the next release in May. “We had about 100 people lined up outside the gate before 6am this morning and by 6.30am we’d sold 31 of our terraces,” he said. “The only reason we had the line-up was because we had so much demand and this was the fairest way. If people line up it makes it transparent about who is first.” “We exchanged all 31 contracts by 3pm and took more than $1 million worth of deposits which means we sold over $10 million worth of housing. It’s a fantastic start and we’ve still got 12 left to sell.”
Mr Dawkins said 23 lots would be released in May, with the option of another 23 if demand dictates. “We’ve worked really hard to try and get as many affordable lots on the market as we can to satisfy people getting the first home buyers grants,” he said. “Before that first home buyer grant was announced we weren’t planning to put anything on the market till August or September.”
