Goodwin Aged Care Services is set to add to its rapid growth with a new $70 million
independent living centre at Crace, Gungahlin.
Work is due to begin in July/August on 140 one, two and three bedroom apartments.
Chief executive officer Chris Lamont said Goodwin's retirement development at Ainslie, which
had been under construction for five years and was nearing completion, had drawn people from
NSW and he expected Crace would continue the trend.
Although Crace was a new suburb, Mr Lamont was confident all services would be available in
two years time when the units, across the road from a new shopping centre, public transport,
small shops and cafes, were completed. Goodwin also hoped to attract medical professionals
to its development and to the shopping centre.
Crace project director Malcolm Leslie said the joint venture partnership had designed and
obtained planning approval the retail site, comprising a 1500 square metre supermarket and
600 square metres of speciality shops, including retailers like a café, bakery, hairdresser,
bottle shop and newsagent.
Goodwin's over-55 retirement living option would add to Crace's terraces, boutique apartments
and homes ranging from the affordable market to million dollar houses.
